What is GSM?

Posted by Super User

GSM is an acronym

GSM is an acronym standing for 'Grams per Square Meter'. Quite simply, it allows print buyers and print suppliers to know exactly what the quality is of the paper. The higher the GSM number, the heavier (thicker)  the paper.

If the thickness is higher than 130 gsm, it can be referred as paper board. With 80 gsm paper, a typical A4 paper weighs 5 grams. 80 gsm is fairly standard in printer and copy machines.
